Tswelopele Celebrates Arbor Month in style

5 September 2019 the municipality celebrated the National Arbor month in Hoopstad. South Africa celebrates Arbor week in the first week of September each year. This year’s theme is “Forests and Sustainable cities”.

National Arbor Week is an opportune time to call on all South Africans to plant indigenous trees as a practical and symbolic gesture of sustainable environmental management. It affords the government, the private sector, non-governmental and community based organisations and the public to be involved in "greening" their communities.

The day unfolded with a cleaning campaign around Tikwana Township. Participants in the campaign included project workers who are involved in environmental management. The local municipality was also supported by the provincial Department of Economic, Small business development, tourism and Environmental Affairs. The District Municipality was also present in the celebrations.

Indigenous tree were planted in both Hoopstad and in the Tikwana. A large number of trees were planted at the newly established settlement in Tikwana as part of greening programmes.

The Honourable Speaker of Tswelopele together with the Municipal Manager also took part in the event. They planted the first tress at the new residential area.
